Last night, MTV revealed what everyone who knows anything about the universe of The Hills already knew, Whitney Port is officially leaving sunny Southern California for the pee-stained streets of New York City.
We’ve all known it for a while, but MTV made it official by showing an official trailer for “The City.”
It looks like MTV fans are pretty split on the new series, which will take on the task that The Hills has done an incredible job of - making a very urban city look incredibly beautiful.
It’s a little weird to see Whitney playing Lauren in the new series as the main character. I said before that Whitney is not nearly as big of a “character” as Lauren was to Laguna Beach, so the “getting to know you” period is going to take a little bit longer than it took for fans to embrace The Hills. It reminds me a bit of how we didn’t really know Addison that well before Private Practice spun out of Grey’s Anatomy.
It looks like the show will have a gay guy, which is a change of pace from Laguna Beach, Newport Harbor, and The Hills. We’re going to have to get used to watching Whitney make out, do more than be a wonderful friend who makes funny faces, and be the center of all the drama that will undoubtedly happen as Whitney works for designer Diane von Furstenberg.
On a good note, it looks like socialite Olivia Palermo will play a big part in the new show, as she’s not only featured on the trailer giving Whit Whit a dirty look, but she’s been seen around New York City filming with the next MTV star.
Despite claims that she’ll have nothing to do with the show, it looks like more sources say that she’ll be part of it than those who say she won’t. So take that, ad-riddled Lalate, one of the ugliest websites that I’ve ever seen, because from the looks of the trailer, it looks like Olivia Palermo will be part of MTV’s creativity lacking, but potentially next big hit.
