So I don’t watch One Tree Hill, but I hear that Kate Voegele is on it. On the show, she apparently plays a singer named Mia, who sings Kate Voegele’s songs on the show (not as covers, but as original songs by the character Mia). Honestly, I was just on a CD buying spree when I got Eminem, Redman and Method Man, and Green Day’s latest offerings, then I saw an ad to get Kate Voegele’s album for $1.99 on Amazon via MySpace Music.

I actually clicked the ad and bought it (CPC or CPA crews, you’re welcome). A week or so later, Voegele’s album has been the one that I’ve listened to the most and I didn’t even know who she was. Honestly, I just bought the album because I thought she was pretty and about 37,000 other people did the same, landing her the #10 spot on the Billboard charts for her album “A Fine Mess.”

I will definitely say that this album is not for everyone, especially dudes that aren’t into singers like Sara Bareilles, Michelle Branch, Vanessa Carlton, or any singer/songwriter types. But if you’re into that kind of thing (like me), I think you’ll find Kate Voegele’s music to be a pleasant companion for any long drives. She’s not the most powerful singer in the world, but there’s something about her melodies and girlish voice that does it for me. I used to be a huge Michelle Branch fan, so Voegele’s album is a bit of a less produced, not necessarily “gritty,” but less radio friendly version of that.

And while I am proud of the fact that I actually bought her album at “I Kissed a Girl” and realized that she was actually pretty good

, I have to say that it is her wackiness and overall charm that makes her one of my favorite celebrities today. And I’m very happy that I predicted her 4th single “Waking Up in Vegas,” which has now made her four best songs become her four first singles.

Too often, we have celebrities complaining about this or making a scene about that (looking at you, Katherine Heigl… Miss “I Don’t Want an Emmy, Ok, Now I Do”). So when we have a celebrity that doesn’t take herself too seriously and does something like this – taking a picture with a watermelon head and puts it on Twitter via her Kitty Purry Tumblr blog – it’s hard not to find it incredibly refreshing and love it.

You know when you see really hot girls that are ok with acting like they’re not hot? That’s who Katy Perry has made herself to be and that’s reason enough to lurve her. And underneath that watermelon face is one of the hottest musicians in the game today!

There is no doubt that Chris Brown’s recent arrest after his assault on girlfriend Rihanna could be one of the biggest fall from grace stories that we’ve ever seen in entertainment. Not only is it a beyond terrible situation for Rihanna, but the more that seems to come out about the story, the worse it gets.

What could possibly be worse? The fact that the Daily Fill, who tries to be controversial to get people to link to them (which I suppose worked here) and is a rollup product of big media

, not just one guy, is actually making fun of the situation.

Funny to make fun of this, Daily Fill.

“Brown was driving a vehicle with Robyn F. as the front passenger on an unknown street in Los Angeles. Robyn F. picked up Brown’s cellular phone and observed a three-page text message from a woman who Brown had a previous sexual relationship with.

“A verbal argument ensued and Brown pulled the vehicle over on an unknown street, reached over Robyn F. with his right hand, opened the car door and attempted to force her out. Brown was unable to force Robyn F. out of the vehicle because she was wearing a seat belt. When he could not force her to exit, he took his right hand and shoved her head against the passenger window of the vehicle, causing an approximate one-inch raised circular contusion.

“Robyn F. turned to face Brown and he punched her in the left eye with his right hand. He then drove away in the vehicle and continued to punch her in the face with his right hand while steering the vehicle with his left hand. The assault caused Robyn F.’s mouth to fill with blood and blood to splatter all over her clothing and the interior of the vehicle.

“Brown looked at Robyn F. and stated, ‘I’m going to beat the s–t out of you when we get home! You wait and see!’ “

The detective said she then used her cell phone to call her personal assistant … who did not answer.

“Robyn F. pretended to talk to her and stated, ‘I’m on my way home. Make sure the police are there when I get there.’

“After Robyn F. faked the call, Brown looked at her and stated, ‘You just did the stupidest thing ever! Now I’m really going to kill you!’

“Brown resumed punching Robyn F. and she interlocked her fingers behind her head and brought her elbows forward to protect her face. She then bent over at the waist, placing her elbows and face near her lap in [an] attempt to protect her face and head from the barrage of punches being levied upon her by Brown.

“Brown continued to punch Robyn F. on her left arm and hand, causing her to suffer a contusion on her left triceps (sic) that was approximately two inches in diameter and numerous contusions on her left hand.

“Robyn F. then attempted to send a text message to her other personal assistant. Brown snatched the cellular telephone out of her hand and threw it out of the window onto an unknown street.

“Brown continued driving and Robyn F. observed his cellular telephone sitting in his lap. She picked up the cellular telephone with her left hand and before she could make a call he placed her in a head lock with his right hand and continued to drive the vehicle with his left hand.

“Brown pulled Robyn F. close to him and bit her on her left ear. She was able to feel the vehicle swerving from right to left as Brown sped away. He stopped the vehicle … and Robyn F. turned off the car, removed the key from the ignition and sat on it.

“Brown did not know what she did with the key and began punching her in the face and arms. He then placed her in a head lock positioning the front of her throat between his bicep and forearm. Brown began applying pressure to Robyn F.’s left and right carotid arteries, causing her to be unable to breathe and she began to lose consciousness.

“She reached up with her left hand and began attempting to gouge his eyes in an attempt to free herself. Brown bit her left ring and middle fingers and then released her. While Brown continued to punch her, she turned around and placed her back against the passenger door. She brought her knees to her chest, placed her feet against Brown’s body and began pushing him away. Brown continued to punch her on the legs and feet, causing several contusions.

“Robyn F. began screaming for help and Brown exited the vehicle and walked away. A resident in the neighborhood heard Robyn F.’s plea for help and called 911, causing a police response. An investigation was conducted and Robyn F. was issued a Domestic Violence Emergency Protective Order.”

There are some places you shouldn’t go and Daily Fill goes there almost everyday. While my vegetarian self loves animals, the fact that many people seem more disgusted with Michael Vick’s dog fighting

over Chris Brown’s beating of another human being in Rihanna is pretty shocking to me. The sad thing is that stories like what happened to Rihanna on Grammy night are things that happen everyday and for many, it’s only when we read about something like this that it seems to take any sort of mindshare.

You can say what you will about Carrie Underwood’s outfit during her performance of “Last Name” at the 2009 Grammy Awards (I don’t know what was going on there either), but is there any denying that she was among the night’s best dressed on the red carpet?

One random prediction that I’m very proud of is my prediction that Katy Perry would not be a one hit wonder.

While everything about “I Kissed a Girl” screamed “one hit wonder,” I was one of those people who actually bought her full album. When people would get into my car and ask, “What are we listening to?” and I’d answer, “Katy Perry”, I would get a look. After I got a look, they would say, “Is the CD good?” and I’d say “It’s actually much better that you think” before telling them that there were actually a solid number of not only listenable, but pretty good songs on the album.

How has the artist formerly known as Christian singer Katy Hudson managed to make this happen?

By being really hot and charming.

Ok that, but she (and her people) have also managed to actually choose 3 out of the top 4 songs on her album for her first three singles. And for that, Team Katy, you should be commended. While many of us see our favorite singers choose song after song that we wouldn’t have chosen for radio play hit the mainstream, by choosing “I Kissed a Girl,” “Hot N Cold,” and now “Thinking of You,” Katy Perry has not only shown her wacky side, but has shown that she has some diversity as an artist and good diversity at that.

While a catchy song by all means, “I Kissed a Girl” almost felt like a cry for attention. But then again, it was really catchy.

“Hot N Cold” was another fun song, a little out there, but less out there than “I Kissed a Girl,” but a great song that let Perry show off the new version of her on stage.

And now, after making a name and an image with herself, she gets to show some depth and she does that with “Thinking of You,” which I believe to be the best song on her album. And if Team Katy decides to release one more single off the album and makes it “Waking up in Vegas,” they will have gone 4 for 4 in choosing the top four songs from her album for radio play.

I don’t think anyone will ever campaign to say that Katy Perry is the best singer out right now, but I think everyone will agree that her voice is distinctive and in this song, it’s passionate and tells a compelling story.

If you know me, you know that I’m a big Carrie Underwood fan and it’s interesting to see the similarities between the video for Katy Perry’s “Thinking of You” and Carrie Underwood’s “Just a Dream.” While Perry’s video is more of an interpretation of the lyrics, compared to Underwood’s more direct translation of the lyrics, watch both and see if you find the similarities pretty striking for two videos released far enough away from each other for the creators to notice (Underwood’s came first, not that it matters).

In the tradition of epic dance anthems like “Macarena,” “C’Mon and Ride It (The Train),” and “Crank That,” I was listening to the radio last night and finally heard “Stanky Leg” by the GS Boyz.

While I’m now an old 25 year old, out of the target demo to be doing the stanky leg on the dance floor, something that I’m not crazy about with this new anthem is the fact that they actually tell you what to do for the whole first verse of the song. Sure, there was a little bit of that in the aforementioned jams, but at least Soulja Boy snuck in some random lyrics here and there in all the verses.

And they say lyrics these days aren’t about anything. Psh.

So without further ado, here is your opportunity to do the “Stanky Leg.” Don’t be that guy in the club who doesn’t know what’s up.

Don’t get me wrong with this post, I think that Kanye West’s latest CD – 808s & Heartbreak – could be my favorite Kanye CD since his first album, but good lord, I’d be lying if I said that his performance of “Love Lockdown” on Saturday Night Live wasn’t a disaster.

What I like about the new CD is that the beats are so good that Kanye’s rhymes take a backseat to the incredible production value. While Kanye’s past couple albums have been heavily dependent on his lyrical ability, this album is completely different. Not only does Kanye sing, which seems to have led to some mixed results, but there are very few typical rap verses on the album. For all that’s missing in terms of lyrical content, there’s a lot there in terms of just great music.

Regardless, this performance is pretty bad.

Keeping with the Britney Spears theme for the week, just a reminder that MTV will be premiering their Britney documentary of sorts “For the Record” on Sunday night at 10PM.

It looks like the show will be focusing on the past couple years of the pop star’s life and giving her an opportunity to speak about what it feels like to be thrust back into the spotlight after what was a trainwreck-like two or three years. People will probably be talking about it and hopefully it’s worth watching!

It’s been a while since we’ve seen Britney Spears perform on stage and while many of us still can’t get the memory of her “Gimme More” performance on the VMAs out of our minds, it’s good to see the one-time pop princess turned trainwreck somewhat back on her feet. With Britney’s album Circus just days away from release, Britney is hitting the international TV scene with performances of her single “Womanizer.”

For what it’s worth, I’m happy Britney’s back and I’ll be picking up Circus on Tuesday, regardless of what the critics may say.

Now that I’ve been to four separate Carrie Underwood concerts (Dixon, California; Los Angeles, California; Stagecoach 2008; San Diego, California), I think that I can say that I am a Carrie Underwood concert pro at this point.

Since Carrie’s first album “Some Hearts” came out, she’s been far and away my favorite singer and music personality. I was pretty much a pure hip-hop/R&B listener and somehow, Carrie Underwood got me to listen to country, which got me listening to some more rock, which got me listening to anything and everything. About 75% of the time that I’m in the car, I’m rocking out to something that isn’t hip-hop or R&B at this point and I think that’s a pretty big deal for one artist to completely change the type of music that someone listens to.

After going to Carrie’s Carnival Ride tour in San Diego last night, I have to say that Carrie has come a long way in a good way as a live performer. Not that she wasn’t great initially, but she really owns the stage at this point and is great at interacting with the audience. A singer like Carrie will always have the voice to win over an audience, but people come to concerts to feel like they’re getting to know their favorite singer and I think she’s come a long way in that sense. You see a lot more of her personality and she takes a little bit more freedom with the riffs and variations that she puts into her performances, all of which is great.

So basically, if you’re a Carrie fan and haven’t seen her in concert? Just go. You won’t regret it and she’s turning into such a strong performer at this point that I’ll never miss her when she’s in town, no matter the cost! There are tons and tons of concert reviews online, at great fansites like CarrieFans.com, but if you’re at all a fan of Carrie’s, I can tell you as a veteran concert goer (not just a Carrie concert goer) that she’s quickly becoming great to see live.

What we’re seeing here is the passing of the torch – much like Lebron James, Dwight Howard, Brandon Roy, and Deron Williams have given us a new generation of NBA superstars – country music is undergoing a transformation right before our eyes. This is a transformation that will finally stop people from saying that they like “all music, except for country.” Artists like Swift, Underwood, and Jennifer Nettles’ duo Sugarland, have crossover appeal that makes it more than ok for anyone to like country.
