Carrie Underwood, American Idol’s crown jewel and 2009 ACM Entertainer of the Year, was of course, at this year’s American Idol finale (Congrats to Kris Allen!!) and as usual, she looked pretty perfect.

The last time we saw Carrie, she was at a loss for words accepting her Entertainer of the Year Award, also looking perfect, but I’m a fan of the pink dress she wore to this year’s AI finale.

Carrie Underwood in Badgley Mischka Ad Campaign

Carrie Underwood is part of designer Badgley Mischka’s 20th Anniversary Ad campaign with a bunch of other big names in entertainment

– Brooke Shields, Eva Longoria Parker, Lauren Hutton, and Anjelica Huston. Of course, Carrie looks beautiful as always, but it’s interesting that she’s the only singer in a group full of actresses. Not bad for an American Idol winner to represent a whole side of entertainment.

This week, Carrie Underwood released a music video for what I believe to be the strongest track on her album Carnival Ride, “Just a Dream.” While it took a few listens for me to pick it up way back when the album came out, the song is about a wife-to-be who loses her military husband before their planned wedding. It’s not only the best song on the album in terms of Carrie’s vocal chops, but it’s also probably the strongest song in terms of writing as well.

Already as one of Carrie’s best performances live in concert, “Just a Dream” continues to shape Carrie as a music artist that could easily find herself in more prominent acting roles in the near future. Unlike videos like “So Small,” where Carrie acts as more of a narrator, Carrie plays the lead role in this video, much like she did in “Last Name.” It’s hard to look attractive while you’re crying, even when you’re Carrie Underwood, and I think the fact that you cringe a little bit at her crying face in the latter parts of the video make her a more believable actress than many would think.

Is Carrie destined for some non-Glitter, small screen/big screen stardom soon? Me thinks so!

Keeping with the night’s commercial theme, music superstar and hottest woman on the planet Carrie Underwood has also been keeping busy with commercials as of late for both Nintendo and Vitamin Water.

While the Nintendo DS commercial is one of the more random and kind of pointless things I’ve ever seen (though I’m not complaining) because Carrie is pretty much just there to smile, giggle, and say “cuuute,” in a series of commercials that also stars Ugly Betty’s America Ferrera, it’s a tribute to how mainstream the once-country superstar has become.

Carrie, whose Carnival Ride tour continues through this fall (which I will be seeing again in San Diego, just to switch up locations), is the poster girl for any award show, even outside of country music, and I’m led to believe that in terms of overall success, she has surpassed Kelly Clarkson in prestige at this point. Likely not album sales, considering Carrie has only had two CDs to Kelly’s three, but Underwood has tabloid relevance, musical success legitimacy, and of course, the most beautiful face on the planet.

In a commercial that finally points out that Carrie is one of the more attractive girls this side of the Mississippi (it doesn’t matter what side of the Mississippi you’re on, it’s just a fact), Vitamin Water pokes fun at the star’s desirability when they say that makeshift horse whisperer Carrie makes guys want to become horses.

True. Story.

In this summer of movie sequels (see Indiana Jones) and redos (The Incredible Hulk), the American Idol finale also saw George Michael take the Idol stage for the first time to sing “Praying for Time,” which Carrie Underwood performed earlier this year at Idol Gives Back.

I realize that George Michael made the song a hit, but at least on the Idol stage, I feel like Carrie was the one to take it to a new, higher, better level. Am I wrong?

Last night at the American Idol finale, the always stunning Carrie Underwood download witchcraft 13 blood of the chosen movie performed her latest single, the “Before He Cheats” of her Carnival Ride

album, “Last Name.” I think this is probably the best Carrie has ever looked on stage!

Some are saying that the judges acted very cold to the most successful American Idol in the show’s history. I didn’t notice anything too rude in particular, but apparently the judges got a lot more excited and gave standing ovations to some of the other performers, while Carrie just got a lukewarm reception from the crew.

Carrie is one of the few Idols who always comes back a couple times a season since her time on the show three seasons ago. She’s not only one of the biggest names in country music, but one of the biggest names in music in general, so I think pairing the two powerhouses creates some pretty great synergy.

Did anyone else notice a certain coldness coming from the judges directed at Carrie? Because I didn’t see it at all.

In a night filled with emotional performances and some great moves courtesy of the So You Think You Can Dance crew (could this be the rumored American Idol/So You Think You Can Dance tour

?), Carrie Underwood’s simple arrangement and emotional performance of “Praying For Time” shone brightest on a night of great performances.


I think Annie Lennox’s performance was also truly a show stopper as well, sharing the honors with Underwood for the best performance on a night for a fantastic cause (which you can download via iTunes). I’m obviously biased, as I feel like this performance solidified Carrie Underwood as the most beautiful woman on the planet, which makes it an unfairly beautiful performance for me. Despite my celebrity crushes, take a look and I’m pretty sure you’ll agree that it is a pretty incredible performance, regardless of how you feel about Carrie or country music.

If you’ve ever seen Carrie in concert or followed her on Idol, this performance goes down as one of her greatest televised performances of all time and is definitely worth watching if you missed Idol Gives Back , which you can still donate to through that link.

In honor of tomorrow night’s second Idol Gives Back, here’s Carrie Underwood’s “I’ll Stand By You,” which was quite possibly the most touching part of last year’s show.
