While I don’t throw paint on people wearing fur coats or gag at barbeques when people bite into a rack of ribs (in fact, it’s still slightly hard to resist if not for the fact that I would worry about spontaneously making a chocolate cake in my pants at this point), I do believe in the benefit that people eating a little less meat can have on the environment.
Regardless, PETA has a series of “Too Hot for TV” advertisements posted on its website. One of them, “Veggie Love” claims to be PETA’s Super Bowl commercial for this year. Pumpkins and broccoli will never be the same (in a good way).
A surprise to some, American Idol’s Hollywood-bound Joanna Pacitti actually recorded “Out from Under,” a song that is one of Britney Spears’ best efforts on her latest album before Brit Brit took a crack at the song herself.
If we’re being honest, Joanna Pacitti is clearly the better singer, but there’s something about the very public year that Britney Spears endured this past year that gives her rendition of the song some real value as well, despite the lesser vocals.
Forgetting about the fact that this week’s Louisville and San Francisco audition shows were some of the worst that I’ve ever seen in the history of American Idol, simply due to the fact that they didn’t show many quality contestants, one of the bright spots was an emotional Joanna Pacitti.
, and it looked like she felt a little burned by the music industry (only saying that “it didn’t work out”) and Idol was a chance for her to feel like she had a second chance to really go big “in the biz.” She’ll be an interesting one to watch this season because she’s an artist that people actually know about after releasing a full album (which makes some people mad, even though I think that’s completely ridiculous because numerous previous Idol contestants have been signed), contributing to a couple soundtracks, and having a song or two make it to radio.
Her performance of Pat Benatar’s “We Belong” was one of the few very bright spots this week on American Idol and it shows that she definitely belongs in this year’s Top 24. So far, from what we’ve seen, I’d put her right behind Danny Gokey and Casey Carlson before we see a few more auditions before Hollywood Week. (thanks again to Rickey.org for doing a great job keeping up with AI this season)
AskMen.com released one of my favorite features of every year, its Top 99 Most Desirable Women list this week to crown Eva Mendes the new winner after Katherine Heigl took the crown last year (who doesn’t even make the Top 10 this year) in a list that I got to contribute to on the editorial side.
While Mendes is no doubt attractive, I have to say that seeing her top out this year’s list is even more disappointing than Heigl taking the top spot because of the exceptional Top 10 that precluded her this year.
With a Top 10 as good as this year’s, I actually had a lot of anticipation clicking to the #1 spot, only to say, “EVA MENDES?!?!?!” So in the tradition of last year, here are some of the names that I would have liked to have seen come in a little higher.
95) Elizabeth Banks(one of the hottest girls in the game right now, come on now, AskMen!)
81) Katherine Heigl (dropping from #1 to #81 is a little ridiculous and no one deserves that, even if I thought she was overrated last year..)
78) Anna Faris (just personal choice, she had me at Scary Movie…)
79) Aubrey O’Day (call her a little trashy looking, but very little about the ex-Danity Kaner isn’t hot…)
47) Carrie Underwood (until Carrie breaks the Top 10, I’m going to keep wondering why some people try and deny the fact that she’s physically one of the most flawless blondes out there…)
41) Hayden Panettiere (can’t really explain this one, but the media makes me think she should be higher…)
22) Evangeline Lilly (this is nit-picky, but there’s very little that anyone can argue to keep her out of the Top 20)
As many of you know, I spent my entire college life with the USC Football team working as a student manager and eventually, the head student manager for the team. And over the course of nearly four years with the team day and night, semester in and semester out, I’d have to say that it’d be tough to find a better guy out there than Mark.
Everything you read about Mark’s energy, his demeanor and talent, it’s completely true. Mark is truly a stand up guy with talent to spare to go with a humble spirit and easy-going nature that just makes you want to cheer for him.
I want to be clear, I am an unabashed Sanchez fan. I am not alone in this thinking. If you’ve met the young man, if you’ve followed his career and watched him play, chances are you are a fan of #6. He has all the qualities of a star of the highest order. A winning smile, a magnetic personality, a good student, a leader.
I don’t know if I could have said it better (thanks, Garry).
I know that Mark got great advice and while I’m in no place to judge or give advice, I think he made the right decision. While I do think that Mark is an elite quarterback, he is coming out in a year where big names like Colt McCoy, Sam Bradford, and to a lesser extent, Tim Tebow, aren’t. This puts Mark Sanchez in the draft as either the #1 or #2 quarterback, the season after people realized that you can indeed win with a rookie quarterback (see Joe Flacco and Matt Ryan). ESPN’s Mel Kiper says that Mark could go as high as #1, maybe #3, but there’s no way he falls out of the first round.
He won the Rose Bowl in incredible fashion. He’s going to graduate. He’s going first round. He’s going to prove that he can do it. So Mark, if you ever stumble on here, I just wanted to wish you my best.
(many thanks to Rickey.org for doing such a great job covering the top auditions so far this season).
Check out this audition video of Danny Gokey performing Marvin Gaye’s “I Heard It Through the Grapevine,” an audition where he blew away the judges just weeks after his wife died of a heart condition.
Season 8: I’m on the Casey Carlson and Danny Gokey fan bus right now. There’s still room for you to join.
In case you’ve been living in a cave, American Idol started again this week. If you’ve lost count, we’re now at Season 8 – after Kelly, Ruben, Fantasia, Carrie, Taylor, Jordan, and David, we’re on our way to crowning our next American Idol. If you’ve been watching the auditions, you’ve got to think that one of the front runners right now is Casey Carlson, who had one of the top auditions from week one with her rendition of Vanessa Carlton’s “A Thousand Miles.”
So yes, Casey Carlson is really hot. But people have been making a big stink about Casey’s pictures in a calendar by Campus Girls USA, where the University of Minnesota student was featured in a calendar that gives 100% of its profits to breast cancer research.
To me, this is a good thing for two reasons.
One, Casey Carlson is really pretty, so I feel like most people (ok, most guys) are going to be pretty thrilled with this find.
Two, by Casey Carlson making it to Hollywood Week on American Idol, tons of fans of the show, infatuated guys, and a bunch of other people are going to stumble onto this calendar, realize it’s for a good cause (and see that she’s really pretty) and they’re going to buy a calendar. While I have a Marisa Miller calendar on my wall, instantly turning my room into a HR fiasco, I think I would probably be a lot happier if I knew that the money I spent on a calendar that is completely useless as an actual calendar went to a good cause.
For Casey’s sake, since I hope she’ll make it to the Top 24 (as she is my Kady Malloy so far this season) and I’m not alone!
I’m looking forward to seeing Casey continue on through the competition and I’m hoping that we don’t see a Bailie Brown-like shocker
(still one of my biggest Hollywood Week upsets of all time).
And really, it seems like we’ve heard this story before – pretty girl with some pictures online where she’s happens not to be all bundled up like a Michelin man with enormous sweatpants on, which is pretty normal. We’ve seen it in extreme cases, like Antonella Barba (but not as extreme as Frenchie Davis), and we’ve seen it in less extreme cases like Amy Davis (who happens to be a model and singer) , and even one of the all-time Idol hotties in Alaina Alexander, but the good part with this situation is that Casey Carlson is inadvertantly bringing a lot of awareness to something that looks like a good cause.
