CW's New 90210 Preview: Less Talky, More Jennie
Today, Jossip posted a preview for the CW’s revamped version of Beverly Hills 90210 , renamed and shortened to the much more hip 90210.
Duh nuh nuh nuh, nah nah nah nah *clap clap*
Instead of trying to break from the norm to create a warmer show about relationships, which I would argue the original show did, it looks like the new 90210 will simply be trying to become another Gossip Girl or The OC. As a twist, the show will be based in the zip code that I drive through everyday instead of a place where I often wonder if I should be (Manhattan).
Gossip Girl is about rich white kids in the Upper East Side of Manhattan. The OC
is about rich white kids in Newport Beach. The Hills is about rich white girls in Hollywood. And now, 90210
is about rich white people (and one black guy!) in Beverly Hills.
They’re totally different.
With Gossip Girl being more than enough drama, I would have liked to have seen a nicer, more normal 90210 to bring some sanity to the CW, but I guess that wouldn’t be any fun.
Where are the hotties? The bad guy in the leather jacket? The girl with the glasses who is everything you’d ever wish a valedictorian to be? Where is Donna. Martin. Graduates? The fraternal twins? And most of all, where was hottie student-turned hottie guidance counselor Kelly Taylor (Jennie Garth, the main reason I will actually want to watch this show) ?
At least it still has the theme song, though it is brought a little more into the late 2000’s.
I have low expectations for 90210 and I’m wondering if it will end up meeting those.
Surprise me, CW. Please.

They put that clip together before Rob Estes officially signed on as “the dad” and the first true hottie for the new generation. A little bit 90210, a little bit Melrose Place; I’m so excited!!!
