The Hills: Lauren Joins People’s Revolution

April 15th, 2008 · 1 Comment

In what has already been a fantastic restart to Season 3 of The Hills, Lauren Conrad joined her main homey from Teen Vogue Whitney Port at her new job with fashion PR agency People’s Revolution, after both girls were “rock stars” during LA Fashion Week. Whitney recently accepted a gig there, while Lauren was just there basking in being jealous of the greatness of Whitney’s new job.

Luckily for Lauren, she’s being reunited with Whitney at a great job and will be the second The Hills cast member to be leaving Teen Vogue this season. It doesn’t really come as a surprise, as it was pretty clear that the girls were no longer going to be working for the teen magazine. Lisa Love will miss them!

By joining People’s Revolution, The Hills is entering a completely different chapter in its Season 3 life. As seen in the episode preview for next week’s show, Lo Bosworth and Whitney Port become even bigger pieces of The Hills puzzle due to a change in living situation, while Audrina will eventually move into their guest house. Apparently, everyone’s favorite belcher, yet dispised Lauren Conrad hater Justin Bobby is returning to the scene as well to continue hating on Lauren and causing drama.

Chances are Audrina Patridge will say a tear-filled “I’m done. I’m so done,” to him at least once before the end of the season. After she’s done crying, Justin Bobby will burp in her face, just as he did after she excitedly told him about her promotion.

Last week, Lauren gave some of the most fierce, angry facial expressions that she has made in about five season of MTV reality shows when Audrina told her that her archnemesis Heidi Montag, who just launched her Heidiwood clothing line, had stepped into their apartment to pick up her things.

It an angry side of Lauren that we haven’t seen since “He’s a SUCKY person!” To bring Lauren back down to the level we all love her for, Lauren showed a more competitive, responsible side of her at the runway show she worked for People’s Revolution, while sporting a braid atop her head that made her look beautiful under pressure.

When The Hills returned for Season 3.5, Lauren’s trip to Paris was a work debacle. Even Lauren Conrad lovers around the world watched the episode in horror, thinking “Lauren could quite possibly be the worst employee in the history of work,” after our beloved LC blew off her responsibilities in my favorite city on the planet - messing up appointments, dresses, and taking personal phone calls while being in another country to work.

I’m probably the biggest Lauren Conrad fan there is and I was absolutely horrified at the level of irresponsibility she showed on the company dime.

Luckily, MTV likely sensed that many of its fans would feel this way as they not only put together episodes where funny face maker Whitney Port absolutely balled out (in a good way) at her new gig, but Lauren was represented the same way in tonight’s episode. Paris, forgotten! Good job, MTV!

One of the biggest challenges the show faces this season is that The Hills cast are legitimate Los Angeles celebrities at this point. Everyone wants to have them at their parties and Lauren even lit the Christmas tree at The Grove this past year.

Laguna Beach Lauren Conrad (pretty, but just ok)

Perhaps even more challenging is that while Lauren Conrad has always been beautiful, she’s legitimately turning into one of the best looking girls on television, taking away her “pretty girl next door” appeal that has made many a guy fall in love all the way back to Laguna Beach.

Lauren has always been beautiful, but now she’s so beyond beautiful that it’s nearly impossible to focus on the show because her facial expressions and mannerisms now belong to one of the hottest faces, bodies, and everythings in Hollywood. But I’m not complaining. I can live with this.

Perhaps the most shocking thing about tonight’s episode was that Spencer Pratt almost seemed justified for acting out for once. Most of the time when Spencer acts a fool, he’s doing just that, acting a fool. But in tonight’s episode, though it was a little ridiculous for him to follow Heidi and sister Stephanie out to the bar, it almost felt like it should have been ok for him to just go out and talk to some people instead of sitting at home all day and night annoying his sister.

The “relationship vacation” that Heidi has him on during the season, which clearly results in them still being together in the end, not only feels unfair to Pratt, but is just a little bit ridiculous. Rarely does Spencer make sense on The Hills, but when he said that a “relationship vacation” is what most people call “breaking up,” you couldn’t help but think “Wow, that actually made sense.”

I’m not saying that it was a line that changed anyone’s life, but it was something that Spencer said that made you actually be on his side for a second. But just for a second.

After one of the best season premieres (or returns in this case) in recent television memory, Season 3.5 looks to continue what has been the best half of a season that The Hills has seen since Season 1.

With a new living situation, the pending return of Stephen Colletti, and tons of funny Whitney and Lauren faces in the office to fill the rest of the season, The Hills will undoubtedly continue its reign as MTV’s most-watched semi-scripted reality TV show of all time (and there’s a lot of them, so it’s quite the distinction). The Real World: Hollywood premieres this Wednesday, but girls of The Hills are clearly the queens of MTV at this point, making MTV’s first real reality show an afterthought.
