Keeping up with the Kardashians: Season 2 Premieres, No More Nice Kim?
Keeping up with the Kardashians is one of my favorite reality television shows and I was excited for Season 2’s super new premiere tonight on E!
Instead of being treated to the joy that is the very dreamy Kim Kardashian of Season 1, the premiere showed mean, celebutante, Diva Kim. Much like Lauren Conrad started losing some of her kind heart as her celebrity grew during The Hills: Season 3, we started to see some of the same in the fairest Kardashian. Honestly, it broke my heart a little.
So no, I’m not hating just because Kim is publicly dating Reggie Bush, whom I know from my days working for the USC football team (picture is from five years ago). Rather, it’s the complete opposite because I am a huge Kim Kardashian fan because of how great she was during Season 1 of the Ryan Seacrest reality show.
The Kardashians are no doubt filled with never-ending sums of money, but the best part of the show was how kind Kim was to her family, sisters. It really gave the show heart, separating it from other trashy reality TV shows that don’t really seem to go anywhere a lot of times.
However, in the premiere, we saw Kim gloating about her popularity on Google and AOL for being the most searched for celebrity and whining to her mom about why she couldn’t get a $2500 suite for a trip to Miami – telling mother Chris Kardashian that she always books her into “the worst hotels in Miami” (that I’m sure are wonderful).
In the first fifteen minutes of the show, the magic that was Kim Kardashian from Season 1 was gone!
Had Kim gone Diva?? Was this what we’d be dealing with all season??
Thankfully, no.
One of the best parts about Keeping up with the Kardashians is that none of the characters become antagonists. To put it in reality TV terms, there is no Speidi, or even just a Spencer or Heidi on this show. Since Keeping is about a family at the end of the day, the motley crew comes together like a real family in a Full House like manner by the end of each episode or series of episodes that compose a storyline. It sounds lame, but it’s done so well that you don’t really care that it’s like Full House with more drama and a lot more money.
By the end of the episode, our dreamy Kim was back, supporting Kourtney after a fight with her boyfriend, and even cooking French toast for the Kardashian Klan to apologize for how she had been acting. Hallelujah.
Will Kim continue having moments of being bigger than the family and perhaps bigger than the warm fuzzy feeling of the show? Let’s hope not.
We saw that nice Lauren (The Hills Season 1 & 2) was much cooler than drunk Lauren (The Hills: Season 3 and I hope that E! realizes that kind Kim is much cooler than diva Kim for Season 2 of Keeping Up with the Kardashians, which still looks like it is off to a strong start.

I completely agree! I was glad Kim realized she was acting bratty and diva-like attitude. I love that no matter what happens she’s always there for her family – whenever they need it the most. Love the sister bond they all have. BTW I think Kourtney’s boyfriend is an idiot and feeding her lots of BS! I could totally relate to the text messaging though – I would have done the same thing!
I’m looking forward to the new season!! Already hooked:)
I agree, Season 2 is going to be full of excitement. I’m glad Kim was able to face the fact she was acting up with her family and then she was woman enough to apologize. Tune in on E! at 10/9c on Sundays….that’s where you can find me!
