Keeping Up with the Kardashians: Chickens and Cheetah Girls
This week on Keeping up with the Kardashians, the show might have foreshadowed how little we might see the loveliest Kardashian (Kim) this season, as Kourtney and Rob played the feature roles on this week’s episode. Brody Jenner has yet to be seen on Season 2 and chances are we’ll see even less of him as well.
Luckily for fans, Kourtney is almost as sweet as Kim on the show, so while the show loses some eye candy, it’s still holding strong so far.
Mother Chris Kardashian’s nutritionist told the family that they should get some chickens for the backyard so that the family could eat organic eggs everyday. Kim, Khloe, Kourtney, and even Bruce were disgusted by the idea. Bruce said that chickens were the most disgusting animals in the world and made a very telling comment when he said that he won the Olympic games eating regular “old eggs.” Regardless, Chris took the family out to get some chickens that got loose in the yard, pooped in the house, the bathtub, and laid eggs in the house before the Kardashians decided they had enough.
When the chickens got loose in the backyard, it really showed one of the strengths of Keeping - semi-scripted, but honest, not overstylized “drama.” While the Kardashians chased chickens around the house in their velour and Juicy jumpsuits with pool cleaning nets, there was a randomness and fun to the whole scene that you don’t really get with something like The Hills or Newport Harbor, simply because those shows take the drama so seriously.Â
It was out of control, ridiculous, and very funny to watch, which I appreciated.
However, the drama in this week’s episode really came from brother Rob, who has fallen in love with Adrienne Bailon from the Cheetah Girls after dating her for three months.
Rob, whose previous date with playmate of the year Kara Monaco was ruined by his sisters last season, had fallen so in love with the Disney Channel star that he tattoo-ed her full name on his body, much to the shock of Kourtney and Khloe.
Luckily, the two sisters met Adrienne and loved her, avoiding the train wreck that was the trio of Kardashians spying on Rob’s date with Kara last season. Unfortunately, Kim wasn’t there to meet her and I hope that this isn’t a recurring theme where Kim misses out major family events throughout the season.
Adrienne, who was clearly in love with Rob as well, had to go to India to shoot The Cheetah Girls 3, which tore brother Rob up and really got a lot more feeling out of him than you’d really ever expect from him on a reality television show. While it looked like it was going to be ridiculous on the segment previews, it was actually really touching to see how much the relationship meant to the younger Kardashian brother, who hasn’t even been the same since his father passed away.
Instead of making fun of their brother or encouraging him to break it off with The Cheetah Girl, Khloe and Kourtney bought Rob a video camera and plane tickets to India so that he could go visit Adrienne while she shoots the movie. Word up, guys. Good move.
While the show might be missing a lot of Kim this season, it is not lacking the heart and genuine feelings of emotion that made Season 1 so great. I hope that Rob continues to be part of the storyline of Season 2 because the story of him still coping with the passing of his father is really a compelling one. While Kourtney isn’t everything that Kim is in terms of providing the upbeat and warm guidance on the show, she’s more than likable enough to help carry the show to the point that it can be at least as good as it was last season.
Will Season 2 continue to only have cameos of Kim and focus on the rest of the family? It looks that way, but I hope not. If so, we’ll have something like the upcoming Lohan reality show on our hands.
Luckily, even if the show is left in the hands of Khloe, Bruce, Kourtney, Rob, and Chris, it looks like it’s in good hands.

Last night’s episode was so good. Rob and Adrienne’s relationship just seems so genuine. Glad that she gets along with Rob’s big sisters. I can’t wait to tune Sunday for a fresh episode.
